Share in four days of Reclaiming style, Earth-based spirituality, magic, and community!

Redwood Magic family camp, which sprang out of Witchlets in the Woods in 2013, brings together 70-80 people of all ages. Join us in the redwoods at Mendocino Woodlands as we weave a web that crosses the generations.

Redwood Magic is a do-it-ourselves family camp. During our time at camp, all of us will help create a vibrant, magical experience!

This is a community retreat, not a festival or a drop-in camp. We ask that people plan to attend the entire event (unless advance arrangements are made) and be committed to co-creating camp culture.

Who & Where?

Our camp is open to Reclaiming-friendly families and their invited guests. Reclaiming is an inclusive tradition, and our camps include all sorts of families. Folks new to Reclaiming are welcome – please read our Principles of Unity here.

About the Campsite

Camp is held at Mendocino Woodlands Campsite Two.

The Mendocino Woodlands are a state park operated by a local nonprofit. The site is located just far enough inland from the town of Mendocino to avoid coastal fog. The camp is set among a mature Redwood/Douglas Fir forest, creating a beautiful, peaceful setting. A small creek runs alongside the camp. There is a swimming hole not too far off, although water level can be low in August.

Physical Terrain and Accessibility

Mendocino Woodlands State park is not designated wheelchair accessible. However, the park may have some accessible features, such as parking areas, restrooms, and routes of travel, that meet some of the current accessibility guidelines.

The camp is rustic dirt paths and wooden bridges and is difficult terrain for wheelchairs (although it has been done). Most of the bathroom blocks are up slopes, which can be difficult if you have mobility problems. People have gotten around with walking sticks and crutches at past camps. We will do our best to support your needs.

Please notify us well before camp if you have special needs so we can discuss them with you. We will do our best to accommodate special needs. We also expect each person to be the initiator and take responsibility for yourself and asking for the support you need.

Cabins and Camping

Campsite Two has wooden, screened cabins with cots and foam mattresses. Camping is also an option – there are very nice areas designated for tents.

Food

Your camp fee includes amazing predominantly-organic meals from opening-night dinner to final-day breakfast. All meals include vegetarian offerings. Some include meat dishes as well. We offer options for vegan and/or gluten-free campers by request (on your reg form or contact us well before camp).

We will make every effort to acknowledge allergies and special needs and to provide alternative selections. The kitchen staff, however, will not be able to prepare special meals.

If your needs are highly individual you might want to bring some of your own food, which can be stored in your trunk or the shared camper frig. However, there is no place to prepare or heat personal food.  Contact us with any questions.

Drug and Alcohol Free Space

As with all Reclaiming events, this camp is drug- and alcohol-free. Tradition allows moderate use of caffeine and sugar, and there will be a smoking table (designated by the Woodlands, not us).

We honor California’s medical laws and policies, while balancing our desire to create a safe space for all ages and for people in recovery. If you have a medical card and/or use prescription drugs, please let us know in advance. Thank you.

Cost, Registration and Worktrade

Full information on cost and registration is available on our Registration Page

Our low fees include all camp costs including rustic wooden cabin or tent-camping, amazing predominantly-organic meals, workshops and other activities. We keep our costs low by co-creating our camp. We offer some partial pre-camp work trades.

Get Involved!

Our Weavers and Spinners organizing team (made up of past campers) will anchor logistics, with help from all campers. Weavers will cover publicity, site logistics, kitchen and meals, finances, and basic health and safety.

All participating families can make suggestions and offerings via our googlegroup.

For this camp truly to be “redwood magic,” we need two more things. Luckily, the redwoods are already there and waiting for us!

The other thing we need is the magic. We will co-create what happens at this camp. There will be morning age-based paths, afternoon and evening workshops, swimming, crafts, rituals, singing and drumming, a talent show – even some sleep! Each of us will bring offerings, skills, and hopefully an open heart and mind.

Let’s keep dreaming of what we want our camp to be. Your ideas might resonate with others and take wings!

We’ll invite along a few Reclaiming teachers to help anchor ritual and perhaps paths, and each of us can make offerings during our time at camp.

We’ll share ideas on our googlegroup as camp draws closer.
